Description of this Social Problem
“The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think—rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men.”
~Bill Beattie
- Number of children in the world: 2.2 Billion
- Number of children out of shool: 121 Million

When I say that the world has a large social problem with education, I am referring to Schooling or lack thereof.
Why do people not have access to education?
Many factors contribute to the inaccessibility of education for 121 million children worldwide.
- Poverty is amoung one of the largest problems. Every second child in the world lives in poverty (1 billion).
- Lack of funding. It would take $6 million yearly to provide universal education to the world.
- Unqualified teachers. In developing countries educated adults are hard to come by.
- Health of Children. Millions of children die each year from lack of immunization (2.2 M), exposure to unsafe drinking water (1.4 M) or childhood diseases.
